Plant
care:
Plant
fringed bleedinghearts about 18” apart, in locations
with light to mid-shade. It performs best in well-drained,
evenly moist, slightly acid soil of moderate fertility.
This plant provides constant show from late spring through
early fall if faded flowers are removed from time to time.
Planting
ideas:
-
Plant masses of fringed bleedinghearts in shade gardens
for low-maintenance color.
- Plant
fringed bleedinghearts in front of the larger Japanese
bleedinghearts, to complement the larger species’ flowers
in May, and to camouflage its foliage in late summer
as it dies back.
- The
many named hybrids of this plant and its west coast counterpart
(Dicentra formosa) allow the collector to build a shade
garden of a dozen or more fringed bleedinghearts.
